The Exhibit

“KidZoom: The Power of Creativity” inspires children to exercise creativity in all areas of life and to imagine what the future can hold for their own community. Fantastic creations by local artists, craftspeople, authors and others set the scene for this dynamic, colorful exhibit designed to harness our greatest natural resource, children’s creative energy.

Green Thumb Market

Sow the seeds of creativity in the Green Thumb Market, where children can learn about nature’s creations and the fantastic voyage produce takes from the garden to your dinner plate. Children are invited to plant, tend and harvest produce to sell in the Farmers’ Market. They can also fill up their basket and head to the Millhouse Kitchen, where young chefs can pretend to whip up unique culinary creations to serve at the Kitchen Café. Rich lessons about healthy eating, local cuisine, gardening and nature take root in the Green Thumb Market. 

Build-a-Dream Construction Zone

The sky’s the limit in the Build-a-Dream Construction Zone, where kids are invited to plan and build their very own buildings and communities. They can put on hard hats and use oversized blocks and other creative materials to build amazing structures. Kidzu’s Gravitron, an outrageously fun machine with a giant Archimedes Screw, invites visitors to launch and race balls along tracks of their own design. Children can always also just hook on a tool belt and visit the tool station, where they can practice using hammers, screwdrivers and other construction tools. In our Design Depot you can sit down at the Architects' table and helpu us imagine and design our new permanent home atop the Wallace Deck. Also in our Design Depot you can work with recycled materials at our design station to create your dream bedroom.

Farm Friends Book Nook
& Puppet Theatre

Curl up and relax with a good friend and a good book in Kidzu’s Book Nook. The Book Nook features a variety of stories, including works by North Carolina authors, that will spark children’s imaginations and inspire budding storytellers. Put on a costume, choose a puppet friends and entertain your audience with an orginal production.

Tot Spot

Tots and infants have an area to call their own at Kidzu. Our Tot Spot inspires wonder in our littlest visitors, providing opportunities to explore shapes, textures, and colors. Featuring the Franklin Street Zoom Wall where tots can lead vehicles along the rolling streets of downtown Chapel Hill. We hope they will make discoveries in our safe environment.

Kidoodle Moodle Art Studio

Moodle, doodle and use your noodle in the Art Studio! Open during regular hours, children are invited to make original works of art to take home or display at Kidzu. A few days each month we feature special art projects see our calendar for more information.
